Nico twitches away, but he's familiar enough with Bill that he wasn't working on something that would be disrupted. He isn't doing much of anything, knees drawn up after another unsuccessful attempt to concentrate on his book.
He unfolds at Bill's arrival.
"Hi."
He nods toward the table where there's something that looks a lot like a tie clip.
"Miniaturizing it was tricky, or I would've finished it sooner."
Nico looks at his invention, the suggestion that ten years of specific trauma had saved - or possibly deprived - the world from a mad scientist who had doubled majored in improbable engineering is particularly strong in his expression a moment.
"It was a challenge. And it's for you. Would have to be different, for a human."
Bill beams at him, as much as something without a mouth can, and picks up the clip to examine it.
"KID, THIS IS FANTASTIC! WAY BETTER THAN I EVEN WOULD'VE ASKED FOR! I GOTTA ASK - IF I GO THROUGH WITH THIS AND DUMP OUT MEMORIES TO SWITCH TO BEING -"
His eye scrunches up, yuck - "A HUMAN, OR SOMETHING, AM I STILL GOING TO BE ABLE TO USE IT WHEN I NEED TO?"
"I'm human, but my brain doesn't work the same as 'normal'. There have been aliens who've graduated, who have different abilities. Why does it have to be human?"
"I could build an electronic mind map? Something at least a little better to work off if you do get someone to do it."
It sounds terrible all around, but if Bill is planning on destroying most of himself... well, he can just hope for something less extreme. Still, he does have a demonstration to offer.
He attaches the clip to a slot on his slate. "You should be able to work it without the interface, as you are now." He requires a few more steps. He checks it over again before starting the program. The stones that had been around the edges of Five and Jedao's wedding spring up around them. "The range of the field is still pretty limited."
Bill goes to give him a teeny little smack on the back.
"THAT'S A GREAT IDEA! SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF IT MYSELF! D'YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT CAN STORE?"
After this gets answered, Bill will grill Nico for a lot of technical updates, let him talk about the more esoteric aspects of the coding and physics again. He's particularly interested in the compression method and if the data can be stored without being corrupted or losing clarity.
Nico's happy to delve deep into the details, especially with someone who can understand. The device is still more in testing mode than he'd like, but while he has projected answers, Bill's connection with data means that there are some things he wants to check in to rerun numbers after Bill's used it.
He also has a hard drive, of sorts, for external storage, which should help prevent corruption or loss of clarity, though he's also enthusiastic about what he's been able to do by cobbling together pieces of technology from various futures.
Eventually, he leans back a little, losing most of the ease and certainty that come when he's lost deep inside a topic he knows.
"Sometimes I wish I could check this stuff with the others. Uh, other Greens, I mean. We can do a lot when we work together."
Which, considering what he can create by himself, is an impressive statement.
Bill crosses his little legs in mid-air. He likes to see Nico get comfortable in his areas of expertise. Bill figured this is a way for him to de-stress, and he probably needs it after that port.
