Bill goes to give him a teeny little smack on the back.
"THAT'S A GREAT IDEA! SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF IT MYSELF! D'YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT CAN STORE?"
After this gets answered, Bill will grill Nico for a lot of technical updates, let him talk about the more esoteric aspects of the coding and physics again. He's particularly interested in the compression method and if the data can be stored without being corrupted or losing clarity.
Nico's happy to delve deep into the details, especially with someone who can understand. The device is still more in testing mode than he'd like, but while he has projected answers, Bill's connection with data means that there are some things he wants to check in to rerun numbers after Bill's used it.
He also has a hard drive, of sorts, for external storage, which should help prevent corruption or loss of clarity, though he's also enthusiastic about what he's been able to do by cobbling together pieces of technology from various futures.
Eventually, he leans back a little, losing most of the ease and certainty that come when he's lost deep inside a topic he knows.
"Sometimes I wish I could check this stuff with the others. Uh, other Greens, I mean. We can do a lot when we work together."
Which, considering what he can create by himself, is an impressive statement.
Bill crosses his little legs in mid-air. He likes to see Nico get comfortable in his areas of expertise. Bill figured this is a way for him to de-stress, and he probably needs it after that port.
Nico does feel more comfortable than he has since the port. Since before it too, really.
"There are a lot of... variations, as individuals. In specific abilities. No one knows why. I can do - more. Than some of them. But none of them have my background. It's not a baseline comparison." Maybe the others would have made as large jumps if they had also had nothing before. Maybe having nothing but his own mind sharpened his abilities. Maybe it's written into the codes that had gotten switched on.
"But when we're working on something together... it's something bigger. Iris suggested it might be a type of telepathy. I don't know. We just get... linked up."
"No. Though we were never a very big network. But it feels... nice. You don't have to explain stuff or find out that you're not talking about the same thing. You can just all build together. I wasn't - talking about... things wasn't easier with them, but if we were working..."
"I don't know what sort of projects interest you."
Bill is on the list of people who could more than keep up, but he's asked Nico to make things, so he's not sure what Bill likes. Though he can understand if it's just a quest to escape boredom.
"Not really."
He regrets that, not taking the opportunity to see more. But hiding from his dreams was as much as he could deal with after the nightmare.
"THE DREAMSCAPE'S LIKE LIVING INSIDE A WHITEBOARD THAT YOU CAN DRAW ANYTHING ON! OR LIKE TURNING YOUR IMAGINATION INSIDE-OUT! YOU CAN MODEL THINGS, CREATE THINGS, DESTROY THINGS, TEST PHYSICS OBJECTS, TOSS THE PHYSICAL MANIFESTATION OF AN IDEA AT SOMEONE ELSE... COMMUNICATION IN THERE IS WAY EASIER THAN OUT HERE!"
He does remember that it had been much easier to talk there.
"It sounds like... a dream. Especially for scientists." He doesn't say that he can see why Ford must've loved it, because that's a relationship that goes beyond even his usual careful avoidance of talking about the personal.
"Being comfortable with an idea doesn't translate into it being a good idea, especially when that comfort is based off surface similarities to past experiences, which engender certain feelings due to the specific circumstances. It's important to be able to take these things apart and understand them."
"It's not useful over-analyzing unless I'm able to check whether use makes any changes in your head." Probably, he is trying to figure out his emotions.
Still, he's more interested in testing his work. He carefully unhooks, handing it over to Bill.
"Not like that." Mostly not like that, anyway, he doesn't ignore any of the potential angles of danger. "More... literally. There's a reason humans dream. And brains can get rewired in all sorts of ways. It seems like it could be risky."
He watches carefully, this isn't the best moment, but there's something special about the anticipation before a test run.
Nico is already adding notes to his file on the project, just because he doesn't need them to remember doesn't mean it can't be useful to have things written down. Sometimes.
"That was one of the interesting things to figure out, how to make it display without the intermediary."
He starts on another explanation of 'motion activated sensors', systems that are supposed to respond to thoughts, experiments with AIs, block transfer mechanics as understood as the building blocks of certain universes and a slight digression into the possibility of temporal engineering if you start in a universe without time travel.
"...Uh. Anyway. It should work if you press your whole... hand against it."
Bill looks actually very interested in the temporal engineering part, and encourages the digression. Not like they're pressed for time here. Haha! Get it? Time.
"ALRIGHT!"
He does - the memory he's uploaded is just another one of him looking incredibly bored in the Nightmare Realm, eye half-lidded, floating with all four limbs limp and a deck of cards floating around him in zero gravity.
