"No, thank you." Nico's sticking with the tea, even though it's reminding him of his tiredness. But, counting back from the Admiral's announcement, it should be safe to sleep again.
"I... don't actually know for sure?" he answers around the cookie. "I don't think so, though. Mikodez is in charge of organizing it, because he knows Shparoi tradition.
"But I think we're going to invite most of the barge to celebrate?" He thinks that's how it works, and he's pretty excited about the idea.
Nico squishes pieces of pastry between his fingers, hesitating over his question.
"What does it mean to you? Being officially married and stuff?" The questions are slightly apologetic, after all, it's personal and not his business, but talking about it seems to be something that makes Fives happy and he wants to know.
Fives takes another cookie and eats it more slowly while he thinks how to answer. "It's... it's something real people get to do, and have, that I never even thought would be part of my life," he finally says, and he even bothers to swallow before answering this time. "It's saying we'll be together forever, not just assuming it, and-"
He stops, chews his bottom lip for a moment, then continues- "We are one when together, we are one when parted. We share everything. We will raise warriors," he recites. "That's the Mandalorian wedding vow. All you have to do is both say it and it's done, and that... that's everything it means. That we're one, no matter what. That we'll share everything... that we'll raise the vod'ike together. And that it's for always."
Nico eats his own cookie slowly, breaking it into neat pieces. He listens intently to Fives' words. He always listens intently to what people say - how they say it, everything he sees in their movement and tone and comparisons to past conversations - but this is (mostly) not with a part dedicated to trying to watch out for any dangers.
"It's a... good vow. It can be good to have things said like that. Officially. Even if you have those... plans already. Being the real people who can say them, in the world you're remaking."
He's not sure they're words he could ever say, but there's an importance to them that he takes in carefully.
"They'll know they have that choice. Someday, they won't even have to think about it, because they'll never have known a world where it would've been a problem." He says that with a solemn certainty, a rarity with his usual attitude of twitchy uncertainty about everything.
"Yeah." His smile is wondering and a little awed at the idea of it. "The youngest will never have known anything different. They'll have been free their entire lives, with all the possibilities that come with it." It might not have happened yet, but he's confident that it will.
